Natur & Kultur was founded in 1922 by the Scanian smallholder son Johan Hansson (1879–1973) and his first wife Jenny Bergqvist (1877–1966). Right from the start, the couple invested in a broad, public-educating publication in areas such as the humanities, psychology and natural sciences. They were united by a strong will to run a modern book publishing house full of ideas and ideas.
